Tim Larkin DMR Interview Confirmed!

The D'ni Musicological Research Hood has finalized the details for its latest interview: Tim Larkin, sound designer for Riven: The Sequel to Myst and composer for URU: Ages Beyond Myst, its expansions, as well as Myst V: End of Ages, will sit down for an interview this May!

You may remember the DMR's previous interviews with Robyn Miller and Jack Wall.  Much like those, this interview will be broadcast live on their Ustream at the set time.  All questions for Mr. Larkin can be submitted in this thread.

Join the proceedings in-game in the DMR hood on Saturday, May 4th at 18:00 KI time.  A recorded version of the interview will most likely be made available afterward for those that can't make it.

All Guilds Meeting - April 2013

A rather fiesty crowd at this month's AGM.  What seemed like a quick meeting soon grew into a full-sized one..right before the crowd's eyes!  Here are the usual raw and cleansed chatlogs for those that missed it.

DimensionTravelerCalum/Heritage Night

DTC came to the stage first to mention that HN has been put on hold for the time being for a new project!  This will be similar to Spoken Word Night conducted by vid back years ago, specifically 25 and 50.  More details, such as date and time, will be released soon, so check the Heritage Night site for more info.

Guild of Messengers

Thinking the meeting would be short, the GoMe went next, introducing to everyone the latest Messenger to join the Guild: Samoth! The Guild also updated everyone on the progress of URU2U's next episode, which is coming along nicely and will hopefully be released before the next AGM.  There were also some non-GoMe related announcements: Samoth mentioned the Relto of Ainia, Max talked about the upcoming International Hood, and Lyrositor updated everyone on the status of Lyrobot.

An Interview With Robyn Miller (Part 2)

Editor's Note: This is the second part of the D'ni Musicological Research Hood's interview with Myst co-creator Robyn Miller.  To read the first part, follow this link.  For the original recording of this interview (which we recommend listening to while you read), click here.

Planetary (Pl): Okay, and we’re back. And if anyone’s just joining us, this is the DMR, and we’re here with Mouski and Christine, and our special guest tonight, Mr. Robyn Miller. And I’m Planetary. We’ve been listening to some music from Riven there, and Mouski, you had some other questions that were interesting, as well as Christine. You wanted to ask something as well, too.

Mouski (Mo): Yeah, when the music was playing I asked Robyn: if he had to go back and play a character in Myst again, would he choose Sirrus or Achenar?

Robyn Miller (RM): And I said, don’t even go there. [laughs] Don’t ask those kinds of questions.

Mo: And you also had something to say about the music in Myst, how long did it take you to compose it? Read more

An Interview With Robyn Miller (Part 1)

The D'ni Musicological Research Hood had a very special treat for all of us Myst and URU fans on Friday, the 8th of February: They invited Robyn Miller for a Q&A and a discussion about the Myst games series and his part in creating them and also to discuss his other projects.

Robyn is the brother of Rand Miller and Ryan Miller, a co-founder of the game company Cyan, Inc. (now Cyan Worlds, Inc.), and the man who played Sirrus in the original Myst. He created the music for both Myst and Riven: The Sequel To Myst and has continued his career well beyond the world of D'ni.

In this interview, Robyn reflects on Myst and Riven, especially his "drive" in the creation of the games.  He chats about the creative process when composing the scores for both games and the tools he used, as well as the technical limitations he, Rand and the rest had to deal with at that time.
