Some good news for programmers out there... the Guild of Writers/H'uru has once again begun to post new builds of the CyanWorlds.com Engine (CWE) for all to use! The public releases had to be stopped awhile back due to licensing issues, but the problem was recently solved and work has resumed!
For those not technically inclined, CWE is the game engine that runs Myst Online: URU Live Again and was released as open source over two years ago. Many of the fixes Cyan Worlds, Inc. has incorporated since have been derived from various programmers' work with the engine. In addition to the client, you can also download the Max 2012 Plugin for Age creation, based on the plugin Cyan used to create Uru's Ages.
The old builds had to be removed due to the aforementioned licensing problems, so a new thread has been started for all future build releases. For any questions, read Hoikas' original post and ask your questions there.
A big thank you to all those programmers out there who continue to improve and expand MO:ULa for us all!
[NOTE: We were able to recover what was lost in our logs! Special thanks to Christian Walther, Korov'ev, and KathAveara for their help!]
Here's what happened:
Zeke365 spoke about the latest organized events to teach people about the various locations in the cavern and Age and the history that goes along with them. Along with here.r'Tayrtahn and Stone, they will be having th eir final tour of this season on Tuesday, May 7th at 22:00 KI time (with people to start arriving at the top of the Great Stairs in Ae'gura at 21:30). More tours are planned for the fall, as well as one or two that are during more European-friendly times. See more at the MOUL forum thread

The Guild of Writers has been hard at work on their latest update to Gehn Shard, and today, they have released it for all to enjoy! The update also includes some new content: a new area of the cavern and another stained glass design for Tre'bivdil! Here's a full list of changes:
- Add Fehnir House
- Add Tweek's Tre'bivdil stained glass
- Fix Teledahn mining gun FOV refresh issue
- Fix telescope FOV insanity
- Fix many potential server crashes
- Fix more spurious apostrophes in age names
- Fix Phil's Relto naming
- Improve kickable behavior (the server no longer swallows ownership messages)
- Randomize Neighborhood stained glass designs
- Compound Inert Tessellations
To download, simply run the client as normal. Still need to sign up? Head over to this thread for the installer and instructions on how to use it. Congratulations to the GoW for another solid update!
OpenUru.org and its contributors have put out the latest update to the Minkata shard (Minkata.77). It comprises many bug fixes and other needed changes which, once properly tested, will be added to Cyan Worlds' MOULa shard in short order.
Some of the fixes (and their contributors) this upgrade include:
- Fixed the issue that quick mouse moves while walking/looking by mouse could get the cursor out of the window and break the continuous turning (Hoikas)
- Fix remote code execution through Python.Cheat and Python.RunFile (Boq)
In addition, the team has a request for those using the shard:
Code that has been changed on Minkata but not yet incorporated into MOULa is still present in this release (i.e. Physics fixes, Quab fixes, and removal of proprietary video player code). This is a final iteration of testing this large update to MOULa before Cyan picks up the changes. It is essential that we uncover any issues with the code before the handoff to avoid having Cyan spend time reverting MOULa back. In that situation we would be wasting some of the Cavcon fund due to having to back out (and resubmit) the changes
Make sure that moving your computer's mouse cursor into and out of the client window now behaves like any normal Windows program (your cursor should no longer be held captive by the game client)
Unless you forewarn me, don't try to do anything to confirm or exercise the exploit bug. I'll work with the developers to confirm this fix.
Haven't signed up for Minkata yet? Head to this link and follow the instructions for creating an account and installing the shard. Good luck to everyone testing the fixes!
We're charging right through this year at a crazy pace! This month's All Guilds Meeting came and went and once again, there was much to talk about! Check out the raw and cleansed chatlogs and see how things went.
Here's a summary of the meeting:
Guild of Writers
Hoikas took the time to guage interest in having a St. Patrick's Day parade in Gehn shard. He also mentioned a few statistics about the GoW's shard as well as announcing that the next release, Gehn.15, is expected to be released March 9th, with some bug fixes, a new Tre'bivdil stained glass entry designed by Tweek and modeled for URU by Doobes, and a new Age for all to enjoy!
Mac and rarified gave an update on Minkata and dealings with Cyan. rarified is catching up on some Foundry housekeeping, including compiling a new build of the shard's client, to get ready for new updates and fixes. They're still in contact with Cyan about getting said additions into MOULa soon, reiterating the need for a healthy CAVCON meter to help things along.
