I want to comment on this and I am not afraid... All Cyan Worlds need to do,for starters, is announce to the vast explorer community through us and the Myst Movie Project that the FEE for membership to MORE is 50 bucks a year and optionally 100 bucks per year with 50 going direct to support Myst Movie production
That way the explorers are involved in MORE, User Created Content via GoW and GoMa, Communications and Advertising (snicker) and Movie making.
It's ALL good.

It is a nice gesture and if ppl like to pay more or donate to Cyan that is ok. However Cyan said once that donating is not what they want, but they rather see their products were bought.
Bringing out MORE is for Cyan a gesture to the community.
Because we have such a strong and loyal community Cyan wants to do everything to please that community.
Therefore they said yes to MORE. The price of 50 dollars a year is enough to run the server and to pay the costs for the person who keeps an eye on that server.
User Created Content is something the fans like to do and are no extra costs for Cyan. Those who run a server which contents User Created Content are paying the costs themselves.
Ofcourse everyone likes to see that MORE can make some profit so more developers can be payed.
But we must be realise that this is a dream of us all.
The Myst Movie is something similar. Cyan gave them the exclusive rights to bring out the movie. So it up to them to find funding for the Myst Movie.
Cyan cannot help them with that.
If the community wants to help with the Myst Movie than that is ok. But finding such a lot of money takes a lot of ppl. And I think we must be realistic again is this.
For communications and advertising I can see a task for us as explorers.

Yeah, there's no way Cyan can, or at least at this stage, would give financial support to the Mysteriacs. By the same token, the Myst Movie shouldn't be used as a marketing horse for MORE.

Having said that, Cyan's approval of the script can only be a good thing, and what is effectively a free license is also a nice gesture. From that, and from my own chats with the Mysteriacs, I think they're sitting on a winner. And who knows? A good Myst Movie in mainstream cinemas may help MORe get/stay afloat.

Depending on how they intend to produce the movie will decide a lot of things.

If they intend to produce it independently, none of the standard rules apply. The drawbacks to this come down to money; it's hard to find money to produce an independent film. Not having seen the script, I don't know for certain, but I would presume even at a minimum, there will be location and set costs, as well as at least a bare minimum of special effects. "The Blair Witch Project" is an excellent example of an independently produced movie that made it big, but you'll notice there were no sets and no effects other than what could be done "in camera". The total cost for producing TBWP was around $50,000 at the time.

If they do get a studio or production company involved, Cyan has removed themselves from any part of the script approval process by giving the rights away. This will fall to the director and/or producer. Essentially whoever is paying the bills will decide what is produced. The advantage to this is these people are generally pretty savvy about what will make money and what won't. The drawback is they may feel the story needs "more" (no pun intended) and may alter the storyline considerably. It also brings millions into the budget.
