Polgara. If and when you want my help just ask otherwise I will stay out of this Layout business. I honestly think you are doing an excellent job. I will be here if needed.

How are we going to give feedback on the articles? By the article or here?

The Wiki pages for each article has Comments enabled. Look toward the bottom of each Wiki page. The Main wiki page for each issue does not have comments enabled but its children pages should. If it doesn't let me know and I will enabled it. Anyone with Newpaper Admistration access can do this by going into Edit mode for the page in question, at the very bottom gives the Comment settings which are usuall hidden behind a collapsable menu.

Let's keep the comments/discussion on the Wiki, to not only better track which article we're talking about, but also to limit the number of people discussing it. If someone who doesn't have access to the wiki feels strongly about reading and commenting on the articles, we can grant them access.

uhm I have "file attachments" at the very bottom and I can't seem to find the comment settings. Giving comments isn't yet possible by all articles.

Comments settings are available for Newpaper Mods only and higher roles.

Going to enable where is needed now

Lunanne when Leo gives you Newspaper Mods access you will find the Comments part just above the File Attachments you found. I have just checked the first issue and all the Article pages have comments enabled. You can tell it has been enabled without going to the Edit button by looking the the bottom right of the Article page and look for a "Add New Comment" link.

I´ve uploaded a new file for the layout. Another header, table of contents has a bit changed and some other smaller stuff. The colours can easily be changed.
And meanwhile it´s a Scribus-File - so anybody who wants can work with it.

Szark thanks for your offer to help - but in the moment it´s absolutely not clear what is needed. Everything´s just a try in the moment.

Hey that's cool, good job! If anyone other than Polgara or Blutec wants to mess with it, if you would just as a courtesy discuss it with P and/or B before making any permanent changes! :)

I have just gone through the first issue's wiki main page and placed a link in the article's title to is respective content page. Which means you can just click on the tile of the article and it will open the page where to text goes.

PS Also I made some main section headings to help organise the content, please feel free to alter, adjust and to reword these headings.

Atrus's sayings havn't been complied yet, due to me being seriously busy lately. I think I managed two chapters since the last meeting. Sorry about that folks.

Question: I take it that we want a return of "Did you know" and what about a Crossword?

These two ideas need input from you all. "Did you Know" facts and Question and Answers for the Crossword. If posting on a wiki page I can colloate the Crossword Questions and Answers and make up a Crossword no problem. Since I used to assemble the paper I know how to make a crossword fit a page with the questions and answers so not much to do for the assmebler. If you don't want it then I am happy with that as well.

As for the "Did you Know"'s these would be put togther by the Assembler. As is is only a title and a little bit of text in a box that suits the mag design. Still these can be posted to a wiki page

Did this mean you attached a Scribus file Polgara as I can't see it on the Layout page. If the file is not supported then the best thing is to attch it as a Zip file. Needs to be zipped up of cause. :D

Thanks again I am here if needed. Well around generaly if it is urgent best to PM me. :D

Meeting:

I have updated the Deadline information on Issue 1's wiki.

Crossword:  Yes it is possible to get it done by the 22nd.  In fact the crossword itself can be made in an hour, it is the question formulating that takes the time.

Did you Know's: Same thing. I will have to scour the chat log for some ideas and post them to our collection Wiki.

State of articles. My first one Art of Myst was a short one. My fault for informing GoldenThrush we had a 500 word limit...silly me. But with what I have seen Polgara do with it makes this size peice a great asset. So I consider that complete.  The follow up to this is nearly complete...I think. Just need to finish off the image to goes with it. That has been more challeging than I thought. My poor Dual core system is straining.

Taken from the meeting thread.

Theremin wrote:

No problem from me running longer articles; as long as they're good, we'll run them. Logo contest sounds good. I'll have a short-story from Laughing Pineapple to run also, accompanied by some artwork for it from her boyfriend.

Small art work: A question was asked at the meeting about this and I forgot to mention real life/Myst inspired photography. If it reminds one of Myst/Riven etc and it is well compossed lets get it in. I think you all know this but I say it for the recored. We can't be plucking images of the internet and putting them in the mag. We must get them from the source or at least with the source's permission.

My offer of help still stands to anyone that needs it. I don't want to over burden myself with commiting to do major things like I did in the past. But I do want to help you make the best mag...maybe better than the Archiver or least its equal. I am not saying that you can't do it without me either, my ego isn't that big trust me. It is a pure intent offer of assistance.

Need a graphic made, ask away all I ask is for a good breif of what is required. I think Leo is very happy with his latest request for this type of thing (a new button for the front page on the website). I am no expert in the field I just enjoy working in Photoshop and making things that have a purpose than just for art sake.

Having trouble with Scribus I may be able to help with specific problems about the porgram in how to do something. Why it crashes on some and not othhers is beyond me sorry.

Ok off to dredge the chat log. It will teach me to be late.

Sorry for yesterday evening, but the connection apparently was very poor. My Computer was slower and slower, freezing quite often - so in the end I just tried typing as fast as possible when I had the chance. Was kind of strange.:(

I´ve uploaded a yellow version with a few changes. In addition the Scribusfile as zip and the graphics in another zip-file. Put both together in one folder and it should work. Feel free to change and try out what you want to.

I don´t think I can make the additional graphics as I don´t have too much time in the moment. If you have an idea about them you should ask Szark - he has offered help and is really good in it. After September 26th I have far more time.

Sorry for the super belated answer to your question back a few pages ago, Luna. Schoolwork has been killing me lately and I haven't had time for much else.

A quick update on what I haven't done (but plan to) do:

Someone mentioned the other day that I could play off of the theme and do something about the dA community. I'm in love with this idea.

I'm going to get in contact with the person in charge of the Myst-Fanclub (since it's the most active on dA) and ask a few basic questions so I won't get any facts wrong.

I'll discuss the community there as a whole. There's great diversity there: we have full-blown art types like Shoomlah and hlarkin, but we also have the easily recognizable Artoveli, people who cosplay, write stories about it, make concept art, etc.

Which brings me to the next point. Somewhere above I'll mention the contests they have and examples of prizes, which will open a place to put some of the winners from the most recent contest, if that's possible. I'll have to contact them to get permission first, of course, but it could be neat.

The short story is basically ready and its illustration has been inked!

For future reference, would any of these fit the description?

LP  it is not for me to say regarding images used in the magazine, that should be up left to the Editors and Assembler. I hope you get an answer regarding this.

(/me loves to shred Szark, and hear him scream in agony, 'cuz when it's all over, he whimpers "More! More!")

Lunanne, I read your article through a number of times (I always do before I make any changes) and I think we've got a good thing there. Take a look at the changes I make (I've only revised the first paragraph a bit at this point) and ask me any questions about it, or fight me on the revisions if you feel strongly about. I left comments on the Wiki concerning the changes I made.

uhm did I want to know this?   ;)

Anyway, the revisions are alright. I take it that with the "last paragraph" you mean the bit between brackets? I had written it as an introduction, but as it is more opinionated(is that a word? ) then the rest of the article I didn't really know what to do with it.

edit: btw could you pleas use the "add reply" button underneath the article, Theremin? it makes your comments somewhat easier to find and reply to.

LOL, strictly in a platonically tortuous sense, of course.

Yeah, that's what I meant. We'll run it in bold italics, so it's clear that it's meant to stand apart from the rest of the article, so we can get away with a bit of "artistic opinion". Apparently I've gained a reputation for viciously shortening articles (^.^) so let me know if you feel any of the editing loses the meaning you're trying to convey. I'll look at the other paragraphs soon, and offer some revisions. (I've dealt with and read a number of articles/stories/etc. that drag on forever, and the reader can lose interest. Here in the U.S. there was a sitcom called "Frasier" which had a rather humorous scene. Give me some time to look it up and I'll provide a link...)

On additional notes: Clat is working on the cover, I hope to have that from him soon. I'm also trying to gain permission to use some stunning photos I've found:

I understand what you mean :) As it is the article is just over 500 words long(with the notes that won't be in it) so after a viciously shortening it would actually cease to exist. Since I don't think that will happen there probably won't be a problem with the revisions ;)

Stick the notes in if you have them! I'm not as concerned with word-count as I am with quality vs. redundancy. If the notes just sort of mimic what's in the article, then they can be eliminated. But if they expand on what's in the article, they will enhance it.
