Go Vol 1 num 1

I decided to create a thread to begin working on the first issue. I copied the staff from the other thread for easy reference. I'm looking at a publish date somewhere in August or September.

After much consideration, I decided to go with my initial title of "Go" (no quotes). It's short, simple, and it's what Explorers do.

Clat has agreed to do a full page original art cover for us for the first issue, and has also agreed to let me do an in-depth piece about him, his life, and his work both in Real Life and in Uru.

We don't need ideas for articles, we need people to write them. If you have an idea for an article you'd like to do, PM me or post it. I'm looking to create a newsmagazine that will not only appeal to Uru Explorers, but to people outside as well. (Example- Marten's article about creating videos which was published in the paper, it dealt with his in-game creation, but was applicable to more than just Uru.)

Original stories would be acceptable, so would how-to's. I'd like a lot of pictures to accompany articles. Keep in mind when you're writing; try to appeal to a wide audience without appearing too condescending.

I'm looking forward to this, I think we're off to a good start!

I have two ideas for articles so far. I'll PM you about them now. 

Ooh, I guess I'll have to get cruising on that layout now :P I'll work some more on it tonight I guess.

rightio, time to get to work, name is a bit of a disappointment, though. =/

If the name is a disappointment, why, you'll just have to work extra hard to compensate with the content! 

I'm happy Theremin picked a name.  I'll "Go" along with it. :)

yeah, and off we "Go"'  :P now only something to do.  Who needs a deadline enforced?

I am so glad to see this folks. Look forward to seeing the first new issue. Most importantly enjoy it all, it should never become a slog. Makes me happy to see you all getting along too.

By the way, do we have a logo for this magazine? Is it being drawn into the cover art? Are we just using the book with wings?

I think it should be a different logo in the same style, we can always use this one if we don't know a better one.

A logo is a good idea, it won't be included as the cover illustration. If someone wants to throw together a few different proposals, this is something I'd be willing to throw out for a vote. The only stipulation from me is that it could be used as the actual title (rather than a logo and the title "Go" next to it) and is easily readable as the title (not so stylistic that you have to be told where the word is hidden).

So everybody that wants to, design several logos and we'll vote on them.

I'll have to see what I can come up with... I'm not overly fantastic at logo design, however this is the one I'm most proud of right now:

Obviously that won't fit in with Go very well so I'll have to find some new inspiration.

Also, as you probably saw in the chat logs, I was probably going to have a fake feature on K'veer for layout purposes, however as I've been thinking about it, that could very well be expanded into a real article. Perhaps a "K'veer through the ages" feature or something.

Yeah, I like that idea! Put together a rough sketch of what you have in mind and either PM me with it or post it. this sounds like exactly the type of article that would be excellent for the magazine.

Alright, I'll have to work with that today.

I will be out of town for the next week, and am not sure if I will have internet access or not. Lunanne and Capella can help in an editorial capacity should the need arise.

We've got some good articles started, we just need a few more. I'm thinking it would be nice to incorporate some real photos in our articles, if any are available, as well as some CG. I don't want to print any editorials or opinion pieces, but I like stories not only about the Myst Universe, but the explorers that populate it. I also like a good "scientific" article (see Marten's video how-to or Leo's Rezihksehv article in the paper). The multi-cultural make-up of the explorer community is also fascinating, there may be some wonderful articles there.

Anyway, I'll check in if I can, otherwise I should be back near the 3rd of July.

I haven't had much time to work on this at all recently, but I'll work on it over the week.

I will be gone from the 1st to the 5th looking at schools/"vacationing" so I probably won't be able to work on it then. I'll have internet access (complimentary wifi ftw) however I won't have my designing programs.

tiny non-status update... The column likely won't appear in this issue, as right now, there is nothing to write about on the GoW side of things, which was my intention for the Column.

There /is/ the DLC, of course, but there's no major activity, publicly. (I'm in the dark as much as anyone is, pretty much.)

A few things are being worked on, but, I can't share those, so, that's not a topic I can discuss, either. Right now, the stuff that might be interesting, I cannae discuss, and as a result, I can't really write the column.

This /may/ change in the near future, so I'm keeping an eye on things. =)

As per Leo's 6/20 summary of the guild meeting, I have the interview ok from Mireena, founder of the DMoA bevin. and her (real life) twin Miranna. Both have a long history in URU for all the incarnations, I believe and been the subject of a story line as well as having some personal crises.

I also notice by being a member of two bevins that there are a good number of explorers with family members in MOULa. It may be another article for another issue, but I thought I'd mention it as my 2nd idea. 

I freelance wrote and photographed for a local newspaper for a couple years. Some guidelines would be helpful and I'd like to see Theremin's format for an interview, as I never did like the Q and A style.

Tanshin- get it when you can, if you're any type of photographer, shoot some pics of anything that reminds you of Myst or Uru.

Kaelis- no worries, as things are progressing, if anything strikes you as interesting that might work for a stand alone article (even a short one) post it here.

Musica- I've got the interview with Clat in rough form, I'll do some work on it and post it soon (if I can remember how our "Wiki" works!) The mention you made of several people who have a "family" in MOULa sounds rather interesting, that might be a cool article. Also as I mentioned to Tanshin, if you have any real photos with a Myst look about them it might be cool to throw some of those in along the way...

Yesterday at the All Guilds Meeting Emor D'ni Lap asked if we had any plan to collaborate in some way with the TCT. A link between their audio and our written publications? (it seemed to me that he wasn't aware that the TCT is no longer on hiatus)

The type of collaboration I'd prefer to do (rather than an ad or a link) would be an article about various things such as the TCT, not necessarily an interview with the creator, but perhaps thoughts from various people who have participated in one way or another, a bit of "behind the scenes" type of stuff. If someone wants to put together that sort of article, it may prove interesting...

However last time I did this I had to write up a little piece (announcement) when posting to forums and the like. This I didn't like doing so as a distributor (I am still registered with a lot of forums) and if you guys are ok with me returning, can someone else write it up (with feeling) and I will make sure it is posted. See this thread for posting details.

I may consider Photographer also but as of yet I am undecided.

Welcome back old man! I was wondering if I was going to need to give you a kickstart...

Distributor would be excellent, a difficult job for sure. I seem to recall someone else expressing an interest in helping with distribution, but now can't remember who that was... (I'm avoiding listing people under multiple positions in the header, as I don't want one person to feel overburdened, nor for others to think there's no jobs available). If you want to work with someone to split the burden, that would be cool.

Photographer, yeah. I'm hoping to incorporate some non-traditional pictures (e.g. real) into the magazine, as well as some "spectacular" or "intriguing" shots from within the game, not the sort of stuff you see when you normally play. So, in reality everyone can sort of be a junior photographer, the chief photographer would select what pics are used, and also go looking for pictures when needed to accomodate a specific article or story.

Distributor: This I feel is the easiest job about one hour per paper max. I don't mind sharing and you know I can work as a team but as I have said on numourous occassions this is like being a liaison. It is not a case of post it and leave it. One must check back to answer questions that may arise or just to acknowlegde the thanks given. In the past when I have mentioned this people go running. LOL I just saw the postion empty and considering I am still registered with these sites I thought I would offer my services. Let me know, there is pleanty of time to sort this out.

Photographer: Yeah Theremin I have read all off this thread. Great idea of the Myst inspired real images. Like the unusual in-game image idea also. Example how many have seen this angle

I am happy to have someone else be head Photographer, real happy. LOL

For the unusual images. I don't remember if I already said this but during the last meeting LThyme (?) suggested that we could collaborate with the Myst Community at Deviat Art, they are a very active community. You remember we featured Artoveli's Art in the last papers. IIRC LThyme has some contacts in the DevaintArt Community

Yeah I remember it all like it was yesterday. :D I have an account at DevaintArt now for my 3D art hobby. I should go and take a good look around. If LThyme can point us in the right direction it would be agreat help. :D

Just passing through and catching up some. Glad everyone is excited and busy. Keeps Theremin from roaming loose in cavern and breaking stuff lol.

The only other thing is.. It's great to see the enthusiasm from a new crop of members for all the new stuff going on here and in Cavern.

I had an idea for the Go logo (trying to kick start ideas mainly) I will post it here for the time being.
