Guild of Writers' Gehn Shard First Year Party
Can you believe it's been that long already?
About a year ago, the Guild of Writers/H'uru launched their own shard, named Gehn, to great fanfare. Now they are celebrating a full year of the shard's existence with a party on Saturday, Feburary 9th, 2012!
In order to join the festivites, you will need to set up the client. The installer for the shard can be found in this thread at the GoW's forums. All you will need to sign in is a GoW forum account. Members of the Guild of Writers and Guild of Messengers will be on hand after February's All Guilds Meeting (Feb. 2nd) to provide extra help for those having trouble getting into the shard.
Everyone is welcome to attend, so hope to see you there!

Riven for iPad Now Available
Cyan Worlds, Inc. is at it again. They have successfully ported Riven: The Sequel to Myst to the iPad, with the installation clocking in at just about 2 GB in size. Here's what the company had to say in the press release:
Cyan Worlds is pleased to announce that Riven for iPad is available on the App Store. It took a lot of tender loving care to get the iPad version just right. It wasn’t easy but we’ve polished the images, movies, and sounds, and still managed to squeeze it into the 2 gig size limit. With a special price of $5.99US, you’d better get it now before this introductory deal is over.
It's unclear on Apple's page when the deal will be over, so if interested, best to get a copy now. There is also no word yet on if either this game or Myst will be ported to Android for other smartphones and tablets, but Cyan has not yet ruled that out officially. The Guild of Messengers will keep everyone updated!

Guild of Archivists and MYSTcommunity Co-hosting Fanfiction February
The Guild of Archivists and MYSTCommunity are teaming up to host a history-themed fanfiction challenge this February. Further details have yet to be ironed out, but there will be an ongoing discussion about the upcoming event at the thread on the Guild of Archivists' site here. If anyone is interested, both groups encourage interested parties to join in on the talks.

Heritage Night In 2013
Heritage Night is back! The weekly retelling of various points in Myst/URU canon has now set dates for January and February. The updated schedule can be found here.

All Guilds Meeting - January 2013
Another month, another All Guilds Meeting. This time, Doobes was on a well-deserved vacation, so Lyrositor took over moderating duties for this month. As usual, both cleansed and raw logs are available for your viewing pleasures, as well as the customary summary of the event:
Christian Walther
Christian was our first speaker and summed up the recent series of events concerning the licensing problems with Bink, which interrupted the normal flow of development and testing. To be concise, a portion of Uru's code was discovered by RAD Game Tools (makers of the Bink video codec) to contain copyrighted code from their Software Development Kit (SDK). They demanded that the code be removed from all CWE repositories, an arduous task to say the least. Developers promptly began the process of rewriting repository history to remove these files. Most of the work has been acheived by now, fortunately, and only a few tasks remain, and H'uru has already resumed its normal development pace. Read more
