Yep Szark, it does look very promissing. Looking forward to be able to pay a visit.
And hoping my graphic card will be able to handle it.
..
I usually hang around the Drizzle and Offline KI forums at the GoW. ![]()

Nope, first time for me. Really really nice work. I like that it is large and multilevel. Lot's to explore.
Howdy folks.
I've been thinking for awhile now that this would be an excellent thread to crank up again - but have been hesitant because once started, it ought to be maintained on a fairly regular basis. I've been working hard to try to cull more time from my RL for these activities and I think I'm ready to give this a shot. It's going to start out fairly slowly, but I will try to post at least SOMETHING once a week. Please feel free to ask questions about the GoW, and I'll endeavor to research and come back to you with answers in the following week's entry.
So - to begin: currently the GoW is thinking about a little restructuring of itself. Hoikas, who among other things oversees the Guild of Writers website, has proposed redefining/clarifying/establishing the roles of "Councilor of Technical Direction" and "Councilor of Inter-Guild Relations" in their organizational structure. Hoikas would take the first position and they are looking for someone to fill the second - though first they need to vote to accept or reject these position definition changes. OHB has been nominated to take the second position if it is approved and he has accepted the nomination. Branan was also nominated but turned it down. The whole restructuring thing is under discussion.
The GoW is structured in a two-tier manner, with members and "representatives". Only Representatives can vote, but any member can submit their name to become a Representative. The only stipulation is that Representatives must be active members (active on the forums or otherwise in contact during the past two months). Otherwise their names are removed from the Representative list. Currently there are only 24 Representatives, so there's a push on to get more members to submit their names prior to voting on this proposed organizational change.
Great to know!!
So if OHB gets elected he will be your primary contact with GoW people...I interpret that "Councilor of Inter-Guild relations" as something similar to our Liaisons positions.
Kaelis will also be our link with the "hidden" group of H'Uru
Report for week through Feb 12th:
New: on Feb 7th, the age of Yedahna by Zuri was added to the Deep Island shard. (According to http://alcugs.almlys.org/UAM/ages - there are 109 fan ages now.) There are three public shards: The Deep Island shard, the UAM shard, and the Open Cave shard.
Old business: The "restructuring" of the GoW is still under discussion. The proposal has been refined to keep the "Councilor of Artistic Direction", refine the responsibilities of the "Councilor of Technical Direction" and replace the old third councilor with a "Councilor of Human Resources" which, in part, would "be responsible for communicating with the liaisons frm other Guilds". Presumably the voting body would vote first to accept or reject this new proposed structure, then would vote to select someone to hold that third councilor position. (OHB has already indicated he would accept such a nomination.) Stay tuned... ![]()
UPDATE through 2/28: The GoW has officially approved a structure change to replace the old third councilor with a "Councilor of Human Resources" as described above. Discussion has now started on actually filling this position and OHB is so far the only name mentioned for the job. In other news: As published on our front page, Offline Ki version 3.6 has been released. The "coneLOL" age has been added to the Deep Island shard. New Development journals
"are not being created at this time" per Hoikas on 1/17/11. Chacal thought this was because "the forum system is about to undergo important changes that will have an impact on access rights management" and the hold may be just to save additonal work during the transition. [end]
Nice to see Julee. I still like to keep some measure of the finger on the pulse. This helps a lot, cheers.
Well, here we are again, always such a pleasure... ( ;) )
Anyways.. time for a bit of an update. Quite a great deal has happened in the land of the GoW since Julee D's last post...
For one, the restructure happened - and Branan was selected as councilor. He has since resigned after some... difficulties regarding Cyan and the community.
This leaves the third councilor position empty, and there is at present, no push to fill it - to some degree, the leadership of the GoW feel the position is unnecessary, Branan felt this way himself - this being the reason for his resignation, among other things. You can find the full details here: http://forum.guildofwriters.org/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=5385
Around the time of the restructure, the website got an overhaul, Tweek designed the writers a new logo... and of course, the development journals issue was solved - they are now wordpress-based, and part of the main site. The wiki's theme has also been updated.
Open Source's release lead to the decision to fork the engine, and begin work in earnest. You can find the Writers/H'uru fork of CWE at https://github.com/H-uru/Plasma and at https://github.com/H-uru/moul-scripts for the scripts. At present, this is the most up-to-date version of the engine.
A large number of Ages have been released, too many to list, I'm afraid. A recent release was Relativity - an Age based on M.C. Esher's famous print. (more details here: http://forum.guildofwriters.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5359 ) You can play this online on the Deep Island Shard (and possibly other Shards).
Sirius has managed to get The Wall in gahreesen to work in Path of the Shell, but there appears to be some technical issues with online play. None the less, its quite an amazing achievement. ( More details here: http://forum.guildofwriters.org/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=5412 )
Regarding the H'uru CWE fork... There's a list of new features here: http://forum.guildofwriters.org/viewtopic.php?f=114&t=5336 (Not sure how up to date this is now, however).
That's it for this update - if you have any questions, please don't hesistate to ask, and I'll endeavor to find answers to them. =)
Nice update and a nice read, well apart from the first bit. ;)
