All Guilds Meeting - November 2012

2012 is almost finished as we complete yet another All Guilds Meeting in Kirel.  Many familiar faces joined us this time as well as a fun new Guild!  Lyrobot was also there to assist in moderator duties by storing questions and keeping the chatlog.  Speaking of which, here they are, both raw and cleansed, hot off the press, as well as the usual summary.

Guild of Writers

Branan, with a bit of assistance from Hoikas, came to speak for the GoW.  Their Tre'bivdil Stained Glass Contest was a great success and they have chosen a winner: Christian Walther!  His design, as well as a couple of runners-up will be featured in every hood on Gehn Shard very soon.  Branan also hinted at more such contests in the near future.

Reminder: Tre'bivdil Stained Glass Project

Just a reminder that the Guild of Writers is still taking submissions for their Tre'bivdil Stained Glass Project!  Anyone is welcome to create a design and send it in for possible inclusion in Gehn shard's various hoods, much like was done for Eder Delin, Eder Tsogal, Gahreesen and the Great Zero in MOUL.  The best three designs will be chosen by a panel of judges from the GoW.

The guidelines for submissions are as follows:

  • The image used must be at least 256 by 256 pixels or larger (up to 1024 x 1024).
  • There must be two images: one full color image and another set to greyscale for reflection (see the forum post for more details on that)
  • The images must be in a "lossless" format.  If you're not sure what to use, the PNG format will suffice.

You can submit your creations to contest@guildofwriters.org by midnight Pacific Daylight Time on October 31st, or 01:00 KI time the next day.  Let's see what this talented community can do!

Avatar Physics Changes Being Tested on Minkata Shard

As promised at the AGM, a significant update was made to the Minkata shard over the weekend featuring major changes by Skoader to avatar physics.  Items affected include more consistent jumps, smoother camera transitions, smoother rides, and much improved interaction with dynamic physicals (kickables).  Since physics are pervasive throughout the game, the behavior of every movable object could be impacted by these changes.

There is a lot to do for the tester community, and the more players join in, the better the results. The OpenUru team is especially interested in having skydivers, with their unique knowledge of avatar physics, look for new glitches or fixed old glitches. Old skydiver tricks may not work, and there may be new tricks available. It’s a new playing field.

The OpenUru team is hoping to have these changes thoroughly tested over the next two weeks.  To that end, the team is planning events to attract testers including a Jalak Sculpture Contest and a Conehenge Contest.  If severe bugs are found quickly enough, and the developers are able to fix them quickly enough, these changes might be ready for inclusion in the next MOULa update. (The team already has other fixes ready to be implemented on MOULa and the more they can bundle together in one update, the less it will affect CAVCON.)  It’s an ambitious plan, but with enough testers on board and everything else working out favorably, possible.

At the end of the testing period, Saturday, October 27th, an event will be held on the Minkata shard from 13:00 to 16:00 KI time. Once the OU team has looked over the reports from the two weeks of testing, they'll decide what, if anything is left to be tested and will make plans accordingly. If they can't find anything, then it will just be a well-earned celebration for the testers. Either way, D'niJ Ktahdn will be broadcasting music.  All are welcome to attend.  Read more

All Guilds Meeting - October 2012

Shorah everyone!  Another month goes by and another All Guilds Meeting brings a flurry of activity to Kirel on an otherwise peaceful Saturday.  Things started off by giving Leonardo a proper thank you for his service as moderator.  And of course, the usual raw and cleansed chatlogs are here for those that couldn't make it.

Here's the usual Guild of Messengers' All Guilds Meeting Summary (tm)!

Lyrositor

Ly was first up to discuss the latest upgrades he's made to Lyrobot, who, for the first time, joined everyone for the meeting.  These changes include:

  • Able to page in several avatars like Kodama and Blake and animate them properly.
  • Can link you to more Ages by PM, including one of the Bahro caves.
  • A more improved teleport function for within Ages.
  • More control over how much your avatar shrinks or grows with an optional size modifier.

Check Lyrobot's site linked above for more information!
