Avatar Physics Changes Being Tested on Minkata Shard

As promised at the AGM, a significant update was made to the Minkata shard over the weekend featuring major changes by Skoader to avatar physics.  Items affected include more consistent jumps, smoother camera transitions, smoother rides, and much improved interaction with dynamic physicals (kickables).  Since physics are pervasive throughout the game, the behavior of every movable object could be impacted by these changes.

There is a lot to do for the tester community, and the more players join in, the better the results. The OpenUru team is especially interested in having skydivers, with their unique knowledge of avatar physics, look for new glitches or fixed old glitches. Old skydiver tricks may not work, and there may be new tricks available. It’s a new playing field.

The OpenUru team is hoping to have these changes thoroughly tested over the next two weeks.  To that end, the team is planning events to attract testers including a Jalak Sculpture Contest and a Conehenge Contest.  If severe bugs are found quickly enough, and the developers are able to fix them quickly enough, these changes might be ready for inclusion in the next MOULa update. (The team already has other fixes ready to be implemented on MOULa and the more they can bundle together in one update, the less it will affect CAVCON.)  It’s an ambitious plan, but with enough testers on board and everything else working out favorably, possible.

At the end of the testing period, Saturday, October 27th, an event will be held on the Minkata shard from 13:00 to 16:00 KI time. Once the OU team has looked over the reports from the two weeks of testing, they'll decide what, if anything is left to be tested and will make plans accordingly. If they can't find anything, then it will just be a well-earned celebration for the testers. Either way, D'niJ Ktahdn will be broadcasting music.  All are welcome to attend.

Information for testers can be found in the Minkata Shard Update Saturday October 13, 2012 thread: http://forums.openuru.org/viewtopic.php?p=7109#p7109  If you’re not registered to the Minkata shard, but would like to join, you can find all the information you need in the Minkata Shard Testers Guide at http://forums.openuru.org/viewtopic.php?p=5230#p5230
