Setting up a shard: Q&A!

Leonardo's picture

Lyrositor has started offering a didactic Q&A event on setting up an Open Source shard. Each session will cover all the processes involved to get you up and running with your own personal shard, starting with basic and general information for the first sessions and then moving on to tackle more technical issues. Chatlogs will be made available each time here.

As a result of the success of his first Q&A last Saturday, Lyrositor has announced that he will be repeating the event every week, time-permitting. Follow the link below to be updated accordingly. For time schedule flexibility, each Q&A will take place on Saturday on one of two times: either 11:00 GMT-5 or 21:00 GMT-5. Times will be provided in KI Time once the month of March is over, due to differences in DST time changes in Europe, America, and URU. If you're unsure about the time of the event, this is the correct timezone's time. To convert from your time to GMT-5 time, you can also check this link.

Requirements for attendance: basic technical skills, understanding of servers, perseverance; for actually setting up the server, you will need an internet-connected machine running a *nix Operating System (consult chat logs or attend event for information). WARNING: experience with an Untìl Uru shard could help you, but the process is radically different.

Technical information: the instructions provided by Lyrositor will pertain solely to a shard running MOSS connected to by an H'uru client.

Topics: it is assumed that each previous topic is already known to the attendee (if you missed one session, you can read up on the chat logs).

  • Introduction,
  • Installation and problems you might encounter (server),
  • Compiling and configuring (client),
  • Distributing, branding, licensing.

Each topic will be repeated the following week at an earlier time; if you have questions that weren't answered during one session, feel free to come the second time. However, the second time will always be half-an-hour shorter.

D'ni Location:
OpenURU.org Hood
Date of the event:
Repeats every week until Thu Nov 01 2012 .
