We are definitely not adverse to getting input and recommendations from all the different groups in the Uru community. And as you can very well guess, there is a wide range opinions by the fans and a few of the ideas are in direct opposition of each other. So, it is obvious we won't please everyone. But we've already laid out where we want to end up. But considering where we are, we will start with very small steps (albeit the first step was *much* bigger than we had anticipated!).
We (Cyan) have not exactly figured out what that next step is. Frankly, I not sure we have completed the first step yet. Getting MOUL servers up and people back in the cavern was most of that first step, but we do have to make sure that it will run for the most part, on its own. I feel like we are all standing around what we just erected with our hands out, ready to catch something before it falls. So, we do have to let the dust settle a little before the next step (and we do have the launch of MagiQuest Online coming up very quickly!)
IMHO, the next goal should be to get one or more of the fan created content on the MOULagain servers. To me, that would show the most promising thing about the entire project. So, the first step of that goal would be to get the 3ds max plugin binaries out there and then work with the user-creation community to find and covert a fan created age. But that is just the world according to Mark.
BTW, currently the 3ds max plugin is for an ancient version of max, which the first step of that first step would be to convert those plugins to the latest (or near latest) version of 3ds max.
Thanks,
Mark

This is wonderful news and the dawn of a new era for URU, MOUL, the community and Cyan. It means that Rand's dream of players adding content to the game is big step closer. The candor and sincerity and kindess of Chogon's post shines through all his words. I am hopeful we can work together with them to see whatever is added is of great quality and enhances the world of MOUL for us all. Exciting times.
Chogon send another response to Robert the Rebuilder who recieved the original post .....

I wish it was as simple as putting the binaries in my left hand and putting the source in the right hand and just let y'all choose. Releasing the source to the 3ds max plugins *is* a giant step. I know a lot of people will complain that we are not making big enough steps fast enough but it is still a trolling motor on the back of the cruise ship. We would love to just jump to the completed MOULa/MORE/OSMOUL. But we are stuck doing small steps.
We do have 3ds plugin binaries that could be released right now (or something close to now), except they are for 3ds Max version 7. We do have a requirement for a different project (MagiQuest Online) to update the plugins to the latest 3ds max. So, theoretically, the MOUL 3ds plugins could be converted at the same time with little added cost/time.
And as I said, we have not finalized what the next step will be but I think we are leaning towards this. And we realize that most of the user-created content writers will not have 3ds max but there are a number that do have 3ds max or the means to acquire it. And taking a select few user-created Ages and getting them on the MOULa servers will provide a lot of good information on what the next steps should be.
And please, don't think just because we do a particular small step that all other steps to the final goal have somehow dropped off the table. We will get there, and there will be a step that includes the source to the plugins.
Thanks,
Mark
this is in response to discussion about what can be released and useful to new age writing efforts. This discussion is going on partly at the fan created site for a future Guild of Writers it is a website was set up for a potential Guild but so far there have been no formal Guilds per se, they are an ongoing work and anyone is welcome to join and to share......it is at this point a informal place to discuss what a Guild of Writers might and may do and to carry on discussion about Age writing. These are exciting times with the future opening before us.
