Bomb Alarm in Ae'gura!

white's picture

On July 10th, there was an assault on Ae'gura. OHB had ensured the community that absolutely nothing was going to happen that day, but as some people seem not to have heard his announcement, the cavern happened to be full to the population limit, probably for about the first time since the restart, with everybody surrounding OHB (who, by chance, was there, too). The passersby prepared themselves for some hours of meditative nothingness, when all at once OHB's self-appointed arch-nemesis linked in. After insulting OHB and claiming he was a lot better at constructing robots than him, he pulled out his masterpiece - a massive bomb. In order to protect the explorers, OHB linked to his nemesis' Relto to negotiate, which proved not to be the most secure course of action: One of his nemesis' henchmen was waiting for him there, taking his Relto book (but not the KI) and locking him in a cage. The nemesis then started the bomb and linked out with a rather girlish giggle.

While the community wasn't too comfortable at first to have a bomb in the Cavern, it soon stopped considering it too much of a danger. This may be because the bomb had the voice of John Cleese, but it is probable that its lack of concentration was a factor as well. It tried really hard to count from 1000 back to 0, but was distracted multiple times by things like Hafo poking at it, explorers pulling down its pants and fifty people just staring at it or saying its name (which happened more often than you might think - the name was "bomb"). A figure called Adonis not only bothered the bomb, but also the community by standing on the bomb, almost causing it to climax.

Meanwhile OHB was able to reach some construction plans from his cage, the most notable find being a paper entitled 'Deactivation Sequence'. Unfortunately, it was in cypher, and OHB was unable to figure out its meaning without a computer. He typed it into his KI and sent it to the explorers, who cracked it during the next hours. The solution was a four-letter code depending on the countdown state. Once told the code at the right moment, the bomb was deactivated instantly in a showdown on the museum stairs, causing OHB to be linked out of his nemesis' Relto for unknown reasons. Most notably, when he made it back into the Cavern, he had his Relto book back. He then vaporised the bomb with one of OHBot's phasers. It is unknown what became of OHB's arch-nemesis.

The puzzle involved the D'ni numbering system, the Cyan font, ASCII code and basic maths, which led to the solution that the code could be obtained by simply evaluating the function code(t)=int(9826(83521 |cos(4913-t)| +e |sin(4913-t)| +2 log10(4913-t)) mod 9000 + 1000, where int is a function that chops off everything behind the decimal dot and t is the number the countdown currently is at. Just in case you want to check your solution.

The solution was discussed in this thread at the MOUL forums if you want to read it. If you're really really patient, here's the link to the longest chatlog I've ever uploaded, kindly provided by Szark.

We would like to thank OHB for this great puzzle!

Here is the KI-Mail OHB sent out into the Cavern:

BOMB DEACTIVATION SEQUENCE

Hey, I'm trapped on my arch-nemesis' relto. The moment I arrived one his henchmen grabbed me, took my Relto book, locked me in a cage, and linked out! Conveniently he didn't take my KI. How cliche is this?

Anyway, on the floor there's a BUNCH of papers with diagrams. The only really useful thing I've found so far is a scrap of paper with "deactivation sequence" written on it, followed by this:

3\2!1}251(3{2!201(3}2!211(402!3{3(201(422!4}48
4!431%1%3\3(3}1^1[4[1^4}1(432!4}4%454)1%1%3\3(
3}1^1[4[1^4}1(442!4}3}4!4%1%1%3\3(3}1^1[4[1^4}
1(462!1%423{1*43411*441%3\3(401^1^1&1%3\3(3}1^
1&201(472!454)4^1%461^1@1%1}1{1{1{1&1%3}3(201^
1^1(3}4!40412!471*1%3{3(1}1{1^1[1%3\1*3}1*401^

I can't make any sense of this. Any ideas? Send this to everyone you know...I can't crack this without a computer! We need some serious help!!!
